I am the higher education reporter at The Boston Globe, which means I hang out with smart people and observe the joys and absurdities of academia without becoming personally involved in them. It’s a great job.
During the 2010-11 academic year I was a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT, where I focused on genomics. (I remain a little obsessed with it. Ask me about Bonferroni correction! Please!) In a previous life, I spent a decade covering medicine and biology as a staff writer and editor at Newsweek. I have also worked in public radio and television, and I’ve contributed to several books.
I still sometimes work as a science journalist. I have written for Nature, Scientific American, The Economist, Boston magazine, Mental Floss, Technology Review, and many others.
I should blog more than I do.

“Wild type” is a great name for a genetics blog. I’m interested to see how you live up to the name.
